Communication Skills
Introduction
Effectiveness in the workplace is governed by communication. Communication is the "life blood" of all organisations yet it is all too often either ignored or hampered by poor skills. This intensive workshop is designed to give delegates essential communication skills.
Format
Training will be delivered in a relaxed, friendly environment conducive to the learning process. Workshops will be highly participative. Formal trainer input will be complemented by exercises, discussions and regular feedback sessions and delegates will be actively encouraged to take part.
Delegates will need to log the main learning points as the course progresses. This will enable them to ensure that objectives are being met and will help in the formulation of workplace action plans.
Aims
This workshop aims to allow delegates to become effective communicators by introducing and/or revisiting a range of basic communication skills.
Objectives
At the end of the workshop delegates will return to the workplace better able to:
• Recognise the processes for achieving effective communication
• Recognise the barriers that exist in this process
• Know the main approaches to overcoming those barriers
• Identify different types of question and know their usefulness and limitations
• Select the appropriate questioning technique for particular circumstances
• Identify the barriers to listening and develop personal guidelines for their own improvement
• Understand what non-verbal communication is and its importance in the process
• Explain and apply the principles of effective communication given varying contexts and situations
• Develop and apply personal workplace improvement plans
