Course Title
 Principles of Manual Handling
(CIEH)

Introduction
This module, designed to complement the CIEH Basic Health and Safety programme, is aimed at hose who carry out manual handling activities at work and introduces students to the hazards of manual handling, the risks and controls available and what to expect from a manual handling assessment. Successful completion will prepare students to look carefully at their own work activities and contribute to the development of safer methods and tasks, in co-operation with their managers and supervisors. While this module may be delivered as a stand - alone qualification and there are no specific pre-requisites it is strongly recommended that students already hold the CIEH Basic Health and Safety certificate.

Format
Training will be held in a relaxed, friendly environment which is conducive to the learning process. Delegates will be actively encouraged to take part in every aspect. The whole period will be highly participative with formal trainer input being complemented by exercises, discussions and regular feedback sessions.

Cost
£99 + vat (Price is inclusive of awarding bodt certification. Lunch is also provided at the Sunderland Venue)

Delegates will need to log the main learning points as the course progresses. This will enable them to not only ensure that objectives are being met, but help in the formulation of workplace action plans.

Aim
Manual handling activities at work are a commonn cause of workplace accidents and longer term disorders such as back pain and reduced mobility. Basic health & safety training often provides a good introcudtion to manual handling awareness, but the importanceof this type of health & safety hazard should be the subject of a focused training session for anyone involved in manual handling activities.

Objectives
• Explain what is meant by the term "manual handling" and give example.
• Explain how manual hanlding can cause injury and give examples
• State the principles fro controlling manaul handling risks and
apply these in a practical context.
