Understanding Social Enterprise Award (ILM)

Introduction:
This qualification is for anyone who is involved in the social enterprise sector (businesses that operate for the benefit of the community), whether as a manager, consultant or business advisor, and whether new to the sector or an experienced practitioner, who wants a qualification as evidence of their knowledge and understanding of the sector.
Objectives and Aims:
The main purpose of this qualification is to enable you to become highly effective in your role within the social enterprise sector and even open up new career routes for yourself.
Suitable for:
This qualification is for anyone who is involved in the social enterprise sector (businesses that operate for the benefit of the community), whether as a manager, consultant or business advisor, and whether new to the sector or an experienced practitioner, who wants a qualification as evidence of their knowledge and understanding of the sector.
Entry Requirements
Though there are no formal entry requirements, candidates will normally be practising managers, consultants or business advisors, with several years' experience and appropriate training and qualifications, who are now seeking to engage more effectively with the social enterprise sector or who want a qualification to evidence their knowledge and understanding.
Cost:
£850 + vat
(costs are inclusive of awarding body registration, assessment and certification)
Duration:
Minimum of 26 guided learning hours, excluding assessment, or a nominal 60 hours' total learning time, to be completed within one year.
Structure and Content
• A short induction lasting up to 1 hour, plus four segments of approx 6 hours each, plus minimum 1 hours' tutorial guidance. The segments do not need to be taken in 6-hour blocks, but can be delivered to suit learners' circumstances.
• The segments cover:
• P1.1 Values and purpose of social enterprise
• P1.2 Organisational and legal structures for social enterprise
• P1.3 Finance and support for social enterprise
• P1.4 Case studies in social enterprise
Assessment
A live Case Study Assignment of 1500-2000 words based on the final, summative segment (P1.4) and direct investigation of an actual social enterprise.

According to their individual circumstances and career pathways, candidates may progress to a range of other ILM qualifications including:

• ILM Level 5 (new NQF) Award or Certificate in Leadership

• ILM Level 7 (new NQF) Diploma in Leadership Mentoring & Executive Coaching
• ILM S/NVQs at Levels 4 or 5 in Management, Personnel or Volunteer Management.
